Recyclable

Recyclable

Metal roofing and metal wall materials used my Metal Roofing New Jersey contribute to the green building movement because of its high recycled content and recyclability. Most metal used for metal roofing contain at least 25% recycled content, which reduces both the cost and environmental impact of creating new steel.

Because metal roofing contains at least 25% recycled content it earns points in the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) program. When compared to other building materials like concrete, steel looks even better as concrete has a recycled content of only 3%. Other “green” building products include domestically produced, flat rolled aluminum which contains about 80% recycled materials and copper roofing, which contains about 75% recycled materials.

The steel, aluminum, copper and zinc used to make metal roofing panels is 100% recyclable and metal roofs can be installed over flat roofs (although not always recommended), which eliminates the need to remove the existing roof and thus preserving valuable landfill space. While steel is the most recycled roofing material with an annual recycling rate that is currently above 70%, its recovery rate is even higher at 90%. This means that the new steel made with recycled material uses as little as 26% of the amount of energy that would be required using new materials only.
