Architectural metal roofing systems are generally used for light commercial buildings and are not for carrying heavy loads, spanning open framing or for high wind uplift. Architectural panels are used over a water resistant deck such as fascias, mansards, and other steep applications.

Structural metal roofing systems for commercial application are used for open framing and high wind situations and low slopes because of the material's ability to waterproof the structure. This system is specifically designed for spanning roof purlins and rafters at various spaces. These panels are also used to waterproof a building without first having to put down a water resistant decking material.
